Farady Pole mounted transformers are used in extensive rural area. These transformers range from 16 kVA to 100kVA and transform 11,000 to 33,000 volts down to a low voltage of 400 volts. Pole mounted transformers are reasonably small in size and mass so that it is easy to install them on farady single pole transformer structures, and larger units on two-pole structures, approximately 5 meters above the ground. This makes the transformers inaccessible, reducing the risk of injury to animals and people and minimizing vandalism.

The efficiency of Farady distribution transformer

Farady distribution transformer cannot be run with constant load throughout 24 hours. At day peak time it’s loading is high, whereas in night lean time its loading may be negligible. So selecting a transformer depending upon its conventional efficiency is not practical and economical, too. As a solution of these problems, the concept of all day efficiency of distribution transformer came into the picture. So this efficiency is same as the efficiency of distribution transformer. A transformer has mainly two types of losses, these are, iron losses and copper losses. Iron loss, which is also referred as core loss, consists of hysteresis loss and eddy current loss. These two losses are constant when the farady transformer is charged. That means the amount of these losses does not depend upon the condition of secondary load of farady on load tap changer transformer. In all loading condition, these are fixed. But the copper loss which is also referred as I2R loss entirely depends upon load .

Different designs of portable substations are available. In some trailer mounted substation there the farady 50 kva pole mount transformer is placed on 360o rotating bed, which helps to positioning bushing under existing power line with minimum effort and set up time. In that case as only the transformer rotates but the trailer mounted switchgear system can not be repositioned them self with rotation of transformer, hence customer has to provide HV and LV switchgear and protection for the farady ac power transformer. This is one typical example of portable substation design, and there are many others depending upon customer requirement.
